Genève/Geneva
Alhoewel het nog behoorlijk prematuur is, maak ik op deze pagina alvast bekend welk land ik als eerste wil gaan bezoeken als follow-up van het project Mensen met een beperking aan het woord. Dat wordt ... Zwitserland! De keuze voor Zwitserland is een logische gezien reisafstand, stabiliteit van het land en de te verwachten voorzieningen. Natuurlijk is het geen land waar ik schrijnende verhalen verwacht op te tekenen.
Ik breek voor deze geplande trip met een traditie. Ik ga niet naar de hoofdstad. Zwitserland heeft officieel ook geen hoofdstad. In de praktijk geldt dat Bern als zodanig wordt aangeduid. Ik focus mijn reis en interviewplannen op Genève. Het is de dichtstbijzijnde stad en bovendien herbergt het talrijke internationale organisaties. Onder andere van de VN en op het gebied van mensenrechten.
Wanneer bezoek ik Genève? Zeker niet in mei. Mijn zoektocht naar een geschikte permanente woning in de Randstad duurt langer dan gehoopt. En ik moet voor eind april iets hebben gevonden en bij voorkeur al zijn verhuisd. Daar gaat nu in februari en maart al mijn aandacht naar uit. De reis kan ik daarna voor september plannen en voorbereiden.

Although it's premature, I already want to announce my next travel destination concerning my project Disabled People Speak on this page. It will be ... Switzerland! It's a logical choice looking at travel distance, stability of the country and its services. Of course, it is not a country where I expect to hear poignant stories about people with a disability.
I used to travel to the capital of a certain country, but I won't do that this time. Officially, Switzerland has no capital. Although Bern is regarded to be the capital in practice. I will go to Geneva. It's the most near city seen from where I live and it locates many international institutions. Among others UN offices and offices of human rights organisations.
When will I go to Geneva? Not in the month of May for sure. I still have to find a permanent location to live in The Netherlands. Finding it will require all my time and energy during the months of February and March. Normally, I have to move in April. After that, I can start preparing this trip which I then plan to make in the month of September.
